    The Fall of the Western Roman Empire

    September 476 marked the falling of The Western Roman Empire. The fall of the Western Roman Empire was process of decline in that empire. It failed to inforce it's rule of the land, and over time, all of it's territory was divided into several polities ( political groups of different beliefs). The Roman Empire lost all it's power that had allowed it to exercise control.

    The Battle of Tours.

    The battle of Tours was fought on October 10th 732 between forces under the Frankisn leader Charles Martel and a massive invading Islamic army. Charles Martels army defeats a large army of Spanish Moors, halting the Muslim advance of Western Europe. The Muslim governor of Coerdoba, Abd-ar-Rahman was killed in battle and the Moors retreated from battle, never to return again with such power

    Charles the Great or Charlemagne reached the height of his power in 800 and was crowned Emporer of the Romans by Pope Leo III

    The Treaty of Verdun was the first of the treaties that divided the Carolingian Empire among the three surviving sons of Louis the Pious. The Treaty was signed ending the three year Carolingian civil war.

    The title of emporer was relived again in 962 when German king Otto the first was crowned emporer, and advertising himself as the successor of Charlemagne.

    Declaration of Magna Carta

    In 1215, King John violated a number of ancient laws by which England has been governed. The people forced him to sign the Magna Carta which is the modern day equivalent of human rights.

    The Great Famine 1315-1317

    The Great Famine was the first of lots of large scale crisis to hit Europe in the early fourteenth century. It started with bad weather in Spring 1315. Crop failures affected 1316 and early 1317.The period was marked by extreme levels of crime, disease, mass death and even cannibalism and infanticide. Europe didn't fully recover until 1332.
