26th of July movement
This was the first uprising which caused the Cuban Revolution. In this uprising Fidel Castro led a group of around 160 rebels in an attack on the Moncada Barracks (Santiago De Cuba). -

A Cuban aircraft on its way from Miami to Havana is hijacked by rebels but crashes. The hijackers tried to get the plane Sierra Cristal to deliver weapons to Raul Castros rebels. This was the first of many events like this -
Revolution ends
Batista was driven out of Havana and fled the country. Other cities such as Santa Clara and Santiago De Cuba were captured by rebel groups led by Raul Castro and Huber Matos. -
Bay of Pigs invasion
This invasion a failed military invasion by the CIA on Cuba. The military sent on this mission were anti-Castro Cuban exiles. The aim of this mission was to overthrow the Castro Government. Despite this, the invading force was dealt with in 3 days by Cuban armed forces
