Spy plane ) An American U2 spy plane took a picture of the base being built in Cuba. From there, it would take 10 days for Russia to be able to fire a missile from there.

Kennedy’s Speech telling americans about the blockade.)A naval blockade was mounted to block Cuba from America. Also, an American spy that was working in Russia was arrested. He sent a message that read ,” Soviet attack imminent”.

Russia's Leader

Leader K Russia’s leader, Khrushchev, tells america that the missiles are just for defense in case of an attack on Russia. Meanwhile, Russia was sending more ships over to Cuba.

Blockade of cuba

blockade of cubaAmerica had secretly offered to take out their missiles in Turkey if Russia would take out their missiles in Cuba. Also, the first Russian ships had reached the blockade. One oil ship was allowed through, the other ships carrying missiles turned around.

Telegram

nikita2At 6:00 pm Khrushchev sent Kennedy a telegram saying that if promised not to invade Cuba and if he would lift the blockade, that Russia would remove the missiles from Cuba

Kennedy's Letter

nikita3Khrushchev sends another telegram right after the first one also telling the president to remove the missiles in Turkey. Also, an American U2 spy plane was shot down by Russians. President Kennedy sends a letter simply stating that he wouldn't invade Cuba , he would take down the blockade, and he secretly offered to remove the missiles in Turkey if Khrushchev would remove his missiles from Cuba.

The End

Oct 29, 1962

Russia takes down their missiles and leave Cuba for good. Kennedy, as promised, also takes down the naval blockade of Cuba. Kennedy gets a lot of praise for “ standing down the Russians.”
