Key Points to Australian Colonisation
Colonisation is people trying to rule a country which sometimes involves war. -
Abel Tasmans Discovery
In 1642 a Dutch man Abel Tasman dicovered Tasmania and called it Van Diemens Land. Landing at Blackman's Bay and later having the Dutch flag flown at North Bay, Abel Tasman named the island Anthoonij van Diemenslandt in honour of Anthony van Diemen, the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies who had sent Abel on his voyage in 1642. -
Captin Cook arrival
In 1770 on the 20th of April Captin Cook and his crew were passing through the ocean and found the eastern side of Australia. The Aboriginies were confused and worried because they wondered if these people had come to take over their country or had come for peace and what they were going to do. -
First Fleet
In 1788 Captain Arther and his crew were very joyful that they had reached Australia. All their 11 boats landed in Botany Bay with all the 700 convicts. Everyone was happy exept for the convicts who were feeling sad that they won't see their family ever again. Some of the convicts died from scurvy and not enough sunlight. As for the Aboriginies they were not happy because their land was being taken over and all the Europeans have given them miesles and chicken pocks. -
First Fleet more info
The 11 boats that came to Australia were called The Borrowdale, The Alexander, The Charlotte, The Supply, Prince of Wales, The Lady Penrhyn, The Scarborough, The Friendship, The Golden Grove and The Fishburn. People on the First Fleet brought shovels, wheelbarrows, fish hooks and even rabbits but they didn't bring ploughs for farming. Everyone had to hunt for food. Before the First Fleet the convicts were hanged every six weeks because there wasn't enough space in the London Jails. -
Federation
On the first of January all the colonies came together to form Australia. Before Australia federated Henry Parks made a speech in 1889 and said a speech telling everyone that the colonies should work together. Alfred Decon was fighting for federation as well. And thats why we have a University called Decon University because it was named after him because if he didn't fight for federation we wouldn't be Australia today.
The first prime minister was Edman Bartman. -
Stolen Generation
Between 1909 and 1969 white man took Aborigini children to places away from their homes because they thought that the Aborigini adults weren't looking after them well and responsibly. -
WWI
On the 12th of June all the white men were excited because they were going to the first ever war. In the war lots and lots of Europeans died because they didn't know what to expect. The white people didn't think war would be this bad they thought it would be fun. The Aboriginies were called diggers because they dug all the trenches. -
How are we similar to England Today
We share the same Queen, we are in the commonwealth, till recently we have the same national anthem, we both have the Union Jack on our flags, we share the same cricket team, the tourism, our languages are the same, our food like Christmas Turkey and we follow the same Goverment style.
