End of WW2
The war had ended in Europe where America and British forces fought to liberate France, the Soviets attacked German troops in Russia. American Forces had attacked the western boarder. By the end of February 1945, American troops had reached the Rhine river, Germany's last major line of defense in the west. American tanks crossed Rhone on March 7th and as German's defense crumbled. Hitler knew that he had lost and committed suicide and the Germans had no choice but to surrender. -
The Creation of the United Nations
39 countries had met to discuss the organization, every member in one nation would have one vote. Five members would be permanent members of the security council: Britain, France, China, the Soviet Union, and the United States. The security council was responsible for international peace and security. -
Iron Curtain
The name for the boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas. The Soviets purpose for the iron curtain was to block its states from open contact with the West and the non- Soviet controlled area. -

The Truman Doctrine successfully convinced many that the untied states was locked in a life or death struggle with the soviet union and it set the guidelines for forty year. -
Marshall Plan
Marshall proposed the European government plan which would give the European nations an American aid to rebuild their economies. Marshall offered help to all nations planning a recovery program. The action further separated the Europe into competing nations. -

George Kennan A man who strongly disliked communism and the Soviet government wrote an 8,000 word telegram describing his views on the Soviet Union. -
Berlin Blockade/ Airlift
Known as one of the first major crisis in the cold war. The act of the Soviet Union blocking allies from finding a way t get into Berlin. -

The Berlin blockade convinced many Americans that the Soviets were bent on conquest. The public began support a military alliance with Western Europe. -

The pact was a treaty formed by the Soviet Union to defend Warsaw during the cold war. -

After Egypt nationalized the canal president Eisenhower refused to join Britain, France and Israel in an invasion of Egypt. The invasion was to regain western control over the canal. -
Einsenhower Doctrine
A policy pronounced by middle eastern country to which a country could request American economic assistance from U.S. military forces if it was being threatened by armed aggression from another country. -
