United Nations Formed
The United Nations (UN) was formed to help keep the peace and security between countries, discuss common problems, and to find solutions. During the Cold War it played an important role in maintaining ceasefires, and by making sure that conflicts were not resolved by war but by political means. -
Truman Doctrine
The United States will provide economic, military, and political help to democratic countries under threat of authoritarian forces. It is making sure that if the country falls under communism other countries won't go to communism. -
Hollywood 10
People in the enternatinment industry were brought together to testify if they or anyone they knew were a communist. The Hollywood 10 were 10 people that refused to testify due to the 1rst amendment, however, they were blackballed in the industry so they couldn't get any work unless they were uncredited or under a pseudonym. -
Marshall Plan
After WWII European economy was suffering due to war being costly. So America proposed on giving economic assistance to Europe to help them recover after the war. -
Nato Formed
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an intergovernmental military alliance, and it was formed so the members of NATO would be backed up when they went to war. During the Cold War, it was filled with like-minded countries to have a group to fight against communism. -

North Korea wanted South Korea to be united and North Korea aimed to unify the Koreas militarily under the communist regime. The Korean War was a proxy war meaning that while America wasn't actually fighting they were helping stop the spread of communism to South Korea. -

The U.S. and The Soviet Union competed over who would be better at being in space to prove their own superiority. Sputnik was the first space satellite and was launched on October 4, 1957, by the Soviet Union side. -
U.S. Officially Enters Vietnam War
North Vietnam wanted to unite South and North Vietnam under one communist government. The U.S. Joined South Vietnam to help them not be put under a communist government. -
Bay of Pigs
A group of Cuban exiles tries to invade Cuba during the Cuban Revolution. Considering that the leader was a communist, Fidel Castro, the U.S. helped train and supply the soldiers. The group eventually failed and they were defeated after 2 days. -
Berlin Wall Goes Up
The Berlin Wall was a wall that separated West and East Germany. The wall went up to try to keep people from the West, the democratic side, from leaving into the East, the communist side, and vise versa. -
The Soviets Invade Afghanistan
The U.S. went to attack Afghanistan due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Soviets invaded Afghanistan to help with their government that was fighting anti-communist Muslim guerrillas. -
Berlin Wall Goes Down
The fall of the Berlin Wall was the first step in reunification between West and East Germany. Political changes in East Germany put pressure on them to loosen their travel regulations on travel to East Germany.
