    The Truman Doctrine was passed because the US wanted to stop communism from spreading. The US policy of containment was the main reason for passing this doctrine. One example would be the US intervening in the VIetnam war to stop communism from spreading.

    NATO was created to contain more countries because the US wanted to help the countries who was not communism and was against it. So they created NATO to stand up for what's theres and go against communist.

    Mao Zedong, a communist leader, took over China. When Mao took over China he ran the other leader of China out and he fled out to the small country of Thailand. Now Mao is the leader of China and the country is about to make some changes.

    McCarthey started this witch hunt during the Red Scare when the US was looking for communist spies. So McCarthyism was when he went around calling everyone communist. But at the end of the day we believed that he was communist all along.

    The Korean War started when North Korea started to attack the weaker South Korea. When the US heard about North Korea, a communist country, was trying to take over the US ally South Korea they decided to intervene and I believe they still lost the war it was a FAILURE.

    The KGB was a spy group made by the Soviet Union for a security commitee originally. But the KGB ended up spying on other countries kind of like the Soviets version of the CIA.

    The US created a Hydrogen bomb and wanted to test it out. But while we made ours the Soviets decided to make one just because we made one just because of competition. So the US tested the H Bomb still and it kond of what we wanted it to go.

    The Warsaw Pact was the Communist response to West Germany joining NATO in 1955. Members were not allowed to take Marshall Aid and were instead offered Molotov Aid. However, this was bad idea because they did not have the funds and was not very effectual.

    Sputnik was a shocker to the US about what the Soviet Union was capable of. Sputnik was a satellite that the USSR sent over to the US to9 spy over the US. So the US had to keep a close eye on the USSR knowing what they were capable of now.

    The U2 spy plane was sent by the United States CIA and was shot down by the Soviets. The US sent a plane to spy on the Soviets and the Soviets shot it down and captured Gary Powers. He told on the US and the US said they did not send him.

    The Bay of Pigs invasion happened when Fidel Castro took over Cuba. The US did not want communism so close to the United States so the US decided to invade Cuba. So the US got some Cuban exiles and trained them up and sent them to Cuba. When the US invaded they came up short and lost the battle.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the US has been to going to WWIII. Cuba and the Soviets became allies and now that the US has tried to attack Cuba the Soviets wanted to help them out. So they wanted to help the Cubans by putting a missile base in the US back yard. But before the Soviets could get the missiles there the US surrounded Cuba and they made a deal with the Soviets that they woud take their missiles out of Turkey if they won't take out theirs out of Cuba.

    One day the president of the US, JFK, was driving through Dallas, Texas and was assasinated. Someone was inside of a building and shot him twice and he died with his wife right beside him. The US believed it had something to do with communism.

So when he went Mao wanted to end the tensions between the two countries. The Soviets does not agree with this but Mao really does not care.

    On November 4, 1979, an angry mob of some people who called themselves "Imam's Disciples," laid siege to the American Embassy in Teheran, Iran, to capture and hold hostage 66 U.S. citizens and diplomats. Although women and African-Americans were released a short time later, 51 hostages remained imprisoned for 444 days.

    This was a big event for America because they finally had a hockey team and really wanted to be the USSR. The USSR have been the best hockey team and could not be beat. So the Americans beating them would be good for their rival and to beat the best team is really an accoplishment.
