NATO
NATO is when the Communist asked the United States and 11 other nation from the west if they like to form the North Atlantic Treaty Association (NATO). They formed it because the Soviet Union was increasing in number and getting way more powerful. They were also forcing civilians and prisoners to fight for them to increase their numbers. -
Suez Crisis
This was when the British and French invaded Egypt. They did it to regain control of the Suez Canal. It was heavily criticized by a lot of people, especially America. -
Space Race
The Space Race was a race between the Soviet Union and the United States. They were racing for the first ones to the moon. They were also racing for the first ones to launch an artificial satellite. -
Sputnik
The History was changed when the USSR launched Sputnik. It was the worlds first satellite to ever be in space. It was nearly the size of a beach ball. -
U-2 Incident
The U-2 incident was when the Soviet Union shot down an American spy plan in Soviet Union territory. They captured his pilot, his name was Francis Gary Powers. Dwight Eisenhower was forced to tell them that they had been flying spy planes over their territory for several years. -
John F. Kennedy
He was born on May 29, 1917. He was president during the Cold War between January 20, 1961. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963. -
Bay of Pigs invasion
This was an invasion of Cuban exiles trying to invade Cuba. They were trained by the CIA and aided by the U.S government. They were attempting overthrow Fidel Castro. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was built by the Communist government of German Democratic Republic. It was manly used to keep the east and the west apart from each other. It was still standing until November 9, 1989. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
It was when an American spy plane photographed nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union in Cuba. President Kennedy really didn´t want anyone or even the Soviet Union or Cuba to know that he know about the missile sites. Later, he set up a naval blockade around Cuba, he did that so they don´t bring anymore military supplies. -
JFK assassination
He was assassinated on the visit to Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald was suspected to be the killer but they don´t think he did it alone. They think he was helped by someone or a group of people. -
Iranian Hostage Crisis
It was when a group of Iranian and militants students held went into the American Assembly and took 52 Americans hostage. They did that to show their support fro the Iranian Revolution. It ended on January 20, 1981. -
Olympic Boycott
When Russia and 13 other allied countries boycotted the summer Olympics in Los Angeles. All other countries resigned from the Olympics. The U.S won 83 gold medals. -
Tiananmen Square
This was when people were being arrested and killed while protesting. The Chinese attack was very surprisingly to the allies and the enemies of the cold war. -
Malta Summit
When Bush and Gorbachev would put an end to the war. If Gorbachev wouldn't of activated the Malta Summit. We wouldn't be recognizable today. -

It was a Bilateral treaty. It was between the U.S and the Soviet Union. It was reduction of strategic offensive arms.
