United Nations is Formed
Representatives of 26 nations at wat with the Axis powers come together in Washington. They were to sign the Declaration of the United Nations, signing the Atlantic Charter. They pledged to use everything they have against the Axis, and agreed not to make sperate peace. -
Potsdam Conference
Conference held at Cecilienhof that consisted of representatives by the Soviet Union, the UK, and the US. The conference was to decide on how Nazi Germany was to be administrated, whom had just been defeated weeks ago. -
Truman Doctrine
A international relations policy that Harry Truman, president of the United States at the time, made effect of in a speech. The policy states that Greece and Turkey's economic and military and would be supported by the US. This was to prevent the countries from joining the Soviet sphere. This was often considered as the start of the Cold War and the anti-Soviet expansion containment policy. -
The Marshall Plan
The marshall Plan was a plan initiated by the US in an attempt to rebuild and strengthen their Europeon allied countries. It was offered to the USSR and their allies. It was, however, declined due to fear of an attempt to convert them to capitalism. -
Berlin Air-lIft
The Berlin Blockade was among of the first major international crises in the Cold War. The Western Allies' railway was blocked by the Soviet Union. The goal was forcing the western powers to start supplying Berlin with essential resources, thus granting the Soviets practical control over the entire city. -
NATO
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an intergovernmental military alliance. Twelve countries in North America and Western Europe all joined together to join the North Atlantic Treaty. It was mainly a security agreement, stating that one country would be defended by all others should they be attacked. -
Joseph Stalin's death
Towards the end of WWII, Stalin's health was in danger. His heavy smoking lead to a diagnostics of Atherosclerosis. He died in his bed, at the age of 74. -
Korean War
A war between South Korea's Republic of Korea (supported by the united nations) and North Korea's Democratic People's Republic of Korea (supported by China and the Soviet Union). It resulted in the political division of Korea by the victorious allies of WWII. -

A collective defence treaty that involved eight communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. It was part of the Soviet's reaction to similar Western pact, NATO. -
Suez Crisis
A diplomatic/milatary confrontation with Egypt versing Britain, France, and Isarel. It happened when the Egyptian president, Gamal Abdel Nasser, nationalized the Suez Canal. The US, Soviet Union, and the UN all forced the three allies to withdraw from Egypt. -

A physical barrier that prevented West Berlin from surrounding East Berlin and East Germany was build by the German Democratic Republic. For 28 years, it kept East Germans from esacaping to the West. USS Pueblo Incident
On its way to Sasebo, Japan, the Pueblo was approached by a sub chaser, operated by North Koreans. They challenged the Pueblo's nationality and the Pueblo responded to this by raising the US flag. The Pueblo was warned and rather than stand down, it attempted to escape. The sub chaser was quicker and the North Koreans were able to board the Pueblo, capturing and taking over the ship. -
Nixon Visits China
Nixon's visist to the PRC (People's Republic of China) was a huge step in building relations between the US and China. It was the first time a US president had visited the PRC. Before being elected president, Richard Nixon had said that the US needed better relations with the PRC. -

A group of Iranian students, who secretly works under the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam's Line, held 52 American government officials and civilians hoasttage for 44 days. There is no exact way of explaning the reason of the fall until the complex history the Soviet Union is learnt. Every country declared independence with the exception of Russia and Kazakhstan.
