  • The Russian Revolution

    The Russian Revolution was the political movement in 1917, where Russia abolished and executed the incompetent monarchy and replaced it with a two-part government, where the Bolsheviks eventually take over to form the Soviet Union.
  • The Atomic Bomb

    After the defeat of Nazi Germany, Japan was still involved in the war with their ideas of "Death before surrender". During this time the Soviet Union had control over countries they were supposed to liberate. American Scientist, J Robert Oppenheimer invented the Atomic Bomb with the intention to end the war with Japan. They dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This would also give the U.S an upper hand on the Soviets, and set tensions between the two powers.
  • The Postdamn Conference

    The Potsdam Conference is the meeting of the 3 ally powers leaders. In this meeting, addressing issues involving keeping the peace of the world. Churchhill and Truman with ideas of liberty and democracy, while Joseph Stalin had plans of imposing Communism on Europe. This would cause conflict between the leaders.
  • Long Telegram

    The Long Telegram, also known as the "X Article" was a telegram summarizing how the Soviet Union and Russia viewed the world, the report sent in by George F Kennan. The Soviet Union wasn't interested in war, but was trying to pose a powerful power in the world. The U.S would use this to make plans of containment of the spread of communism.
  • Iron Curtain

    The 'Iron Curtain' was a giant wall in Berlin made by the Soviets to separate Democratic Europe from Communist Europe. This wall was described by Prime minister Churchill as an "Iron Curtain."
  • Molotov Plan

    The Molotov Plan was a plan created by the Soviet Union to Rebuild countries that aligned with the Soviet Union and supported Communism. The plan was created after Minister Vyacheslav Molotov rejected the Marshal Plan.
  • Hollywood 10

    The Hollywood 10 were 10 directors and screenwriters who refused to testify before Congress and the House Un-American Activity Committee on affiliation with Communism. After they served their sentence for contempt of Congress, the 10 were blacklisted by Hollywood.
  • The Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine was a United States foreign policy written by President Harry Truman in defense against Communism Expansion during the Cold War. George Marshall, after traveling to Europe, suggested the Marshal Plan, a program that would give money to European countries suffering from poor economies to fight against communism. Only the Soviet Union refused the plan. Czechoslovakia was taken over by communism during the plans, and Greece and Turkey were given money to rebuild the economy.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan was made to support Western countries suffering from poor economies. The plan was posed to fight against countries in threat of being taken over by Communism.
  • The Berlin Blockade

    During the cold war, Germany was suffering from a poor economy and the citizens were starving. After WW2, the nation was suffering and in threat of Communism spreading throughout the rest of the country. The United States made an attempt at practicing the Marshal plan by giving money to Germany, but the Soviets formed a blockade. Later, the United States military flew over the blockade and the Soviets had no response for it. Becuase of the blockade, the US and several other countries formed NATO
  • NATO

    NATO was formed in response to the Soviet Union's attempt at blockading the U.S from sending financial aid to Germany. It consisted of several countries and the U.S in charge of keeping Western European countries safe from Communism.
  • First Soviet Bomb

    The Soviet Union had discovered information on how the U.S military formed a Nuclear bomb. Called "RDS-1", the bomb was successful when tested in Semipalatinsk. This would put fear into the U.S and cause paranoia of spies.
  • China Communist Revolution

    During the Cold War, China was in a civil war of who would be in power. Mao Zedong became China's leader and made the country a communist nation.
  • Alger Hiss Case

    Alger Hiss was a government official of the U.S who was accused of spying for the Soviet Union in 1948. Alger Hiss was charged in 1950 to a 5-year sentence, then had another trial and charged for another 5 years.
  • The Korean War

    In Korea, the Soviets assisted the North Koreans in invading South Korea, with intention to create a communist take-over. This lead to U.S military to come to the assist of South Korea, stopping North Korean assault at the 38th parallel. U.S and Soviet soldier occupied the country, with Soviets in the North, and U.S in the south.
  • Rosenberg Trial

    Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were American citizens accused of spying for the Soviet Union. The 2 were charged and sentenced to death by electric chair after they were proved to have committed espionage in 1953.
  • Army-McCarthy Hearings

    The Army-McCarthy Hearings were a series of hearings that the U.S Army investigated Senator Joseph McCarthy. They investigated McCarthy on pressuring the Army to give preferential treatment to G. David Schine, a former aide to McCarthy.
  • The Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact was a treaty of the Soviet Union in 1955 uniting all communist and Soviet Union aligned countries with protection. This pact was made in response to the formation of NATO.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    The Hungarian Revolution was an uprising of the Hungarians fighting against the Soviet Union imposed government.
  • Bay Of Pigs Invasion

    The Bay Of Pigs Invasion was an invasion attack on Cuba on 1961, where Rebels of the Cuban government who were trained by the CIA made an assault on The Bay Of Pigs. The invasion failed.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was a massive wall constructed by the Soviet Union to separate Western Democratic Berlin from Eastern Communist Berlin.
  • Assassination Of JFK

    President John F. Kennedy assassinated by Oswald Jack Ruby.
