The Iron Curtain Speech
Winston Churchill delivered the Iron Curtain Speech, the "Sinews of Peace", which was the start of the cold war. The signifigance of the speech was to provide direction and vitality to the British-American alliance as relations with the Soviet Union Collaped. This gave direction to the United Natiions so that the Soviet Union did not gain control over the world. -
The First Atomic Bomb
The United States demanded that Japan surrender during WWII and Japan refused so the U.S. dropped the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima. The effects immediatly killed 80,000 people and then tens of thousdands were later killed from radiation exposure. -
The Atomic Bomb "Fat Man" was dropped on Nagasaki
This bomb was aimed for another city, Kokura, but it was too cloudy and Nagasaki was nessled in narrow valley's with mountains surrounding so the bomb did not do as much damage., about 74,000 killed and injured. On August 15th Japan surrendered. Truman dropped the bomb to end the 4 year war and show the Soviet's how powerful his country was. -
Korean War Begins
Stalin supported the North Korean's when they invaded South Korea. They were equitped with Soviet Weaponary. He did not want to be involved in fear that the U.S. would get tangled in the war. Although, Kimil-Sung persuaded Stalin through his speach. -
Fidel Castro takes over Cuba
Fidel Castro ruled Cuba for over five decades and the people of his country did not have political or economic freedom, he was a dictator. He did reduce illiteracy, racism, and improved public healthcare but because of his hostile relations with the U.S., the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred. -
The Apollo lI landed on the moon
The key term, "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind", was titled after the U.S. was the first Nation to be on the moon. Neil Armstrong 's step on the moon made natioal news. Michael Collins and "Buzz" Aldrin were other two astronauts on the the U.S.S. Hornet. -

Boris Yelstin was a Communist but gave allowances to the people of his country, such as: owning property. He survived impeachment and then disbanned communist parliament. -

The Common Wealth of States was established and the fall was due to radical reforms that Gorbechev implemented. The Soviet Union is now Russia.
