Berlin Blackade and Airlift
The Berlin Blockade was the first sign of significant trnsion between the URRS and the U.S.A. The USSR isolated the Communist region of berlin from the rest of Germany, in response the U.S.A transported aid via aeroplane. -
USSR's First Atom Bomb
The U.S.A lose their mian advantage over the USSR. The USSR show the world that they too have neclear weapons and the Nuclear Armns Race begins. -
Korean War
The Korean War is significant to the Cold War becuase it clearly showed the differences between the USSR and the U.S.A. The USSR supported the North and the U.S.A supported the democratic south. (the war concluded in 1953) -
Space Race
Just like the Nuclear arms race between the USSR and the U.S.A, there was also a space race to see who could be first on the news. Each nation wanted to show that they were the strongest, and by doing that either communism or capitlism would shine through as superior. -
Cuban Missile Cricis
Tensions had been high Between the U.S.A and Cuba in previous years, but when a secret U.S spy plane discovered Soviet nuclear weapons being secretly built in Cuba tensions drastically increased. At this point in the Cold War, nuclear war was most likley. -
Soviets Invade Afganistan
Just as it seemed that the U.S.A and the USSR were begining to ease their rivalry the USSR invaded Afganistan, which caused the U.S.A to support the opposite side. -
Reunited Germany
Capitalism takes the front foot in its war against communism as the Communust East Germnay reunites with the West as a united Capitalist Germany. -
Strategic Arms Reduction Act
In 1991 the USSR and the U.S.A put an end to the Nuclear Arms Race as both sides reflected on history and realised that Nuclear waepons are for too distructive. Both sides signed a treaty which radically reduced the amount of nuclear weapons that each nation could have posession of.
