    Because of the success of the Soviets atomic bomb the United States decided to make a weapon even more lethal. They were successful.

    The Soviet Union and the communist nations of Eastern Europe formed their own alliance known as the Warsaw pact.

  • Sputnick Launches

    The Soviet Union successfully launches history's first artificial satellite.

  • INF Treaty

    The INF treaty or the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty was ratified. This treaty called for the elimination of certain types of missiles.

  • Hungary Opens Border

    Hungary opens its border with Austria which causes thousands of East Germans to travel to Hungary.

  • Take Down of The Berlin War

    Overjoyed Berliners began tearing down the wall.

  • The Soviet Union Collapses

    Many of the countries that the Soviet Union consisted of declared independence, which led to the fall of the Soviet Union
