    Also known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor. This was a surprise military strike by the imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. It was against the US naval base in Pearl Harbor Hawaii.

    Yalta Conference
    Code named the Argonaut conference. The Yalta conference between Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill. They were deciding what would happen at the end of the war.
  • Potsdam Conference

    This divided Germany and Austria into four zones. Berlin would be split into four zones as well. The Russian Polish border was determined and Korea was split into Soviet and American zones.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    The Unite States dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan. This bomb was named "Little Boy." It was dropped by the Boeing B-29 Super fortress Enola Gay.
  • Nagasaki

    Nagasaki
    The second US atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki Japan. Before dropping either bombs the US needed consent from the United Kingdom. This wasn't their first location for this bomb.

    This was when President Truman promised to help any country facing communist take over. He pledged to help Greece and Turkey. Its purpose was to counter the Soviets expansion.

    A program of economic aid by the US to any European countries.It was rejected by Stalin. Due to this the aid was only used for Western countries.

    NATO is a intergovernmental organization. It is a military alliance between several North American and European countries based on the North Atlantic treaty. The main founders were the US and UK.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Formally known as the Treaty of Friendship.This was a pact between East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc. It was a mutual defense organization.
  • Space Race

    The 20th century competition between the Soviet Union and the US. They both wanted dominance in spaceflight capability. They also raced to get the first man on the moon.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik 1 was the first artificial earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical earth orbit. It was a 58 cm diameter polished metal sphere with four external radios antennas.
  • U-2 Incident

    U-2 Incident
    This occurred during the Presidency of Eisenhower and the premiership of Nikita Khrushchev. A US U-2 spy plane was shot down while in Soviet airspace. They also captured the pilot.

    It was a guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin. The wall cut off West Berlin from all of East Berlin and East Germany. It was build out of barbed wire and concrete.

    It has many names including the Caribbean crisis, October crisis of 1962, and the Missile scare. It lasted thirteen days. It was between the US and Soviet Union who threatened us with missiles.

    Also known as the Berlin agreement. An agreement between Britain, USA, Russia, and France. It was to confirm the rights and responsibilities of those countries with regard to Berlin.
