Winston Churchill served as the prime minister of Great Britain twice. He led Britain's fight against Nazi Germany in World War II. British voters turned Churchill out of office in 1945, but he carried on in his efforts to build strong anti-Soviet ideals in the West. In his 1946 speech, Churchill warned that the Soviet Union had built an "Iron Curtain" to divide Soviet-dominated Eastern Europe from the West. It is one of the most defining terms in the cold war.

He was born on December 18, 1879, in Gori, Georgia, Stalin rose to power as General Secretary of the Communist Party, eventually becoming a Soviet dictator when Lenin's died. He forced rapid industrialization and the collectivization of agricultural land, resulting in millions dying from famine while others were sent to camps. His Red Army helped defeat Nazi Germany during WWII.

Truman was born in Missouri on May 8, 1884. He was Roosevelt’s vice president for 82 days before Roosevelt died and Truman became the 33rd president. He dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, ending World War II. His policy of communist containment started the Cold War, and he started U.S. involvement in the Korean War. Truman left office in 1953 and died in 1972.
