Nazi Germany Surrenders
On May 7, 1945. Germany signed a document that stated that they unconditionaly surrender at allied headquarters in France. This officially ended the European conflict that was World War II. The importance of this was the release of all the jews being held captive. -
Atomic Bombs Dropped
At 8.16 am ( Japanese Time), an American B-29 Bomber- the Enola Gay, dropped the worlds first atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima. bout 80,000 people were killed and 35,000 were injured. By the end of the year, another 60,000 died because of the chemical effects , The importance of this was the fact that the U.S dropped it in order to stop the war. This is a debatable topic to this day, the question remains, was it the right thing to do? -
Japan Surrenders
On Septemver 2nd, on the boat USS Missiouri in Tokyo Bay. The flags of the U,S, Britain, Soviet Unition, and China were placed above the deck of the missouri. Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signed on behalf of the Japanese Government. The japanese officially surrendered. The importance of this day was that the most devastating war in human history came to an end. -
Truman Doctrine
President Harry. S Truman, asked for the assistance of the United States. He needed help for Greece and Turkey to forestall communist domination of these two nations. The Interference of the U,S could not dictate if democracy would emerge in Turkey or Greece. Truman succesfully convinced many that the U.S was locked in a long struggle with the soviet union. For over 40 years, this has been the relationship between the U.S- Soviet Union. -
Berlin Airlift
The Soviet Union blocked land routes into West Berlin, which promted the United States to begin a massive airlift of food, water, and medicine to the citizens of the city. This was known as the Berlin Airlife. Supplies from American planes sustained over 2 million people in West Berlin. The Soviet lifted the blockage on may 1949, although by this time West Germany had become an independent nation. -
NATO established
NATO stands for The North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was established in 12 western nations, which included the U.S, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Iceland, Canada, and Portugal. This was a military alliance to have a collective self-defence against the Soviet aggression. Until this day and age, this treaty stands with about 26 member states in total. -
Korean War
The Korean war lasted from 1950 to 1953. On June 1950, North Korean troops unexpectantly attacked South Korea and American wanted this problem immediatly brought before the Security Council. After WWII. The south was in hands of America and the North was in hands of Russia. The war ended in 1953 in Panmunjon, as a result of this wae, America put forward a resolution called, " Uniting For Peace." -
SEATO Formed
President Dwight D. Eisenhower put together an alliance to contain any communist aggression in free places of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, or Southeast Asia in General. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles makes an agreement establishing a military alliance that became SEATO. ( The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization) A lack of aggremement between other nations ( france, Australia, Thailand, etc) caused SEATo to weaken, due to this SEATO expired on June 30, 1977. -
Warsaw Pact
The Soviet Union plus seven it its European partners sign a treaty establishing the Warsaw pact. It is a mutual defense organization that puts soviets in command of the armed forces of the member states. West Germany became a member of NATO on May 9, 1955 which promted the soviets to respond with this treaty. It remained relevant until 1991, the military alliance of the pact was dissolved. This pact was to assure that these nations had eachther backs in case of an outside states attack. -
U.S Support Coup to overthrow Chilean government
President Nixon and secretary of state security advisor, Henry Kissinger helped orchestrate the coup tht out General Augusto Punochet in power and President Allende dead. Pinochet would later go on and kill atleast 3,000 Chileans for the next 17 years. The influence of the United States of America in both economic and the political areans of Chile has increased over the next 200 years. -
U.S & China establish Diplomatic Relations.
On January 28 to February 5, 1979, Chinese Vice- premier Dend Xiaping came to the United States . He was the first leader to visit America since 1949. The visit turned out a great success and it made a hufe contribution to further developments between China and the U.S. China said goodbye to isolation and began to grow in their own country. The U.S congress approved the Taiwan Relations Act, which still remain intact to this day. -
United States Invades Grenada
President Ronald Reagan, citing the threat posed to American nationals on the caribean nations of grenada by the nation's Marxist regime, orders the Marines to invade and secure their safety. There were nearly 2000 U.S citizens in Grenada that feared for their safety. Therefore, the U.S invades and overthrows the Coards government and was replaced by one acceptable to the United States. -

The Berlin wall, in German known as Berliner Mauer was a barrier that divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. This wall was constructed by the German Democratic that completely cut off y land West Berlin from the rest of Germany. The wall was opened in November. It demoliton officially began on June 13, 1990, and was completed in 1992. This fall opened a world of opportunity. -
Soviet Union is Abolished
On December 8, 1991, 3 of the heads of the Soviet Union signed documents that declared the 74- year-old state's abolishment. The soviet breakup was a positive point in the russian and world history. Soviets history is presented as being seven decades of ruthless overpower to its people.
