Alabama born Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus ride. Although she wasn't the first to refuse segregation laws, she was the most impressive by staring the Montgomery Boycott. -
Senator Joseph McCarthy dies
McCarthy made accusations of communist spies being part of the United States government. His alcohol problem led him to be censured and then passed away. -
Central High School
At the begining of the school year, 9 African Americans known as the Little Rock 9 were greeted by an angry mob who opposed integration. Armys had to be sent out to the first day of school to avoid harm being done to the 9 students.This was a life changing time for the United States. -

The soviets put two satelites into orbit and officially became the first country with the capabllity to launch missels. The race to send a man to the moon was on. -
Bay of Pigs
Fidel Castro of Cuba overthrew Batista which was a good partner with the United States. Castro was turning into communism and as he got worse Cubans gradually started fleeing Cuba. -

Cuba went to the Soviets and asked to have missles in the territory to further stop the harrassment from the United States. The Soviets agreed and Cubans shortly had missles pointing to the United States. -
