    The Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    In response to U.S. aid for European countries, the Soviets block all land and water access to the capital, Berlin. From June 24 1948 to May 1949 US & British planes fly 1.5 million tons of supplies to residents of West Berlin. After 200,000 flights, the Soviets give in and reopen access to Berlin.     She said that she remembers the Cold War as a battle between communism and democracy (Good and Evil). Nuclear weapons and the Berlin wall are the most remembered images. She was absolutely terrified of the cold war because of nuclear weapons. When the cold war ended she experienced disbelief because it seemed odd because the soviets were always so stubborn. This connects to cultural because it shows what the U.S culture thought of the issue.
