The Soviet premier ordered East Germany troops to contruct a wall that would separate the East Communist Germany with the West Democratic Germany. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Soviet Union provided Cuba with nuclear missiles that Kennedy would not tolerate. The US was preparing to invade Cuba when Khrushchev offered to remove the missiles if US wouldn't invade. The US agreed to also remove the missiles from Turkey. -

Viet Cong soldiers secretly attacked South Vietnamese cities, US air bases and the US embassy. The ulimately lost when the South and US regained control. -
My Lai Massacre
US plaoon commanded by William Calley massacred over 200 innocent villagers by rounding them up and shooting them down. 25 officers were charged with some degree of responsibility but only Calley was imprisoned. -

National Guard Officers fired at protesters that were protesting the war. -
Pentagon Papers
Ellsberg leaked the documents that revealed things the government had been hiding. It killed much war support. -
War Powers Act
Congress passed this act that stipulated a president must inform Congress within 48 hours of sending forces into a hostile area without a declaration of war and that the troops may not stay there for longer than 90 days unless Congress approves or declares war.
