Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The bombing of Hiroshima (the 6th) and Nagasaki (the 9th) ended the war with Japan but started controversey with the Soviets because they were not notified that America had Atomic weaponry/WMD's. -

This war was basically a huge waste of human life. Literally no progress was achieved by either side. It just created more tension and was an attempt to stop the spread of Communism. -

Vietnam War
Since the Cold War was basically America stopping the spread of Communism, we had to stop the Communists from taking over Vietnam. So we became involved and helped South Vietnam stop the spread. -
US Moon Landing
This was a huge accomplishment for the US. It meant that we won the space race. It didn't actually do that much of a difference to the Cold War except boost US morale and motivate Russia even more to achieve the same goal. -
U-2 Incident
When the U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russian territory, Russia knew we had been spying on them, Again this created more tension and distrust. The plan was sent because of the President's increasing nervousness for Russia's potential ICBMs. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
This invasion was ordered to stop Communist spread outside of Cuba. Since Russia had been supplying Cuba with supplies and weaponry, this was how it correlated to the Cold War. -
Berlin Wall Built
This wall, constructed by Allied Powers, split Berlin in two. Russia on one side and the other Allies on the other side. Russia converted their side to be a Communist nation, while the other side rebuilt Germany and installed a Capitalist Democracy. Russia's spread of communism just created more tension. -
Rocky IV
In this movie, the Protagonist (Stalone) fights a Russian man pictured to the left. This caused controversy due to the fact that an American beat a Russian, although it was a movie.
