Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, made a huge accomplishment during the cold war. Knowing that the US and USSR were competing for space tech, this definetely put the US over the top. The famous phrase "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" is refering to Armstrongs first step on the moon. -

This is a huge change in life for many Germans. This wall separated Western and Eastern Germany. many laws were made that restricted common life. -

Attempting to capture Fidel Castro, the US troops landed on Bahia de Cochinas in hopes to cross the island to Havana. The plan failed when Castros army attacked US troops. -

Israel went to war with Syria, Jordan, and Egypt because Israel had thought a massive attack was being planned. Ultimately, the Israelies were successful in just 6 days but many negative were to follow. One of these negatives is the number of arabs who joined the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organisation) which was a terrorist group. -

The 1980 Olympic Hockey game, depicted in the movie "Miracle on Ice," was a rival match between the USSR and the US. The two had been battling for Hockey for years. The USSR was the winner most times but not in 1980. An amazing team and coach from Minnesota had challenged the best and they won. This boosted Americans moral big time. -
