    The wartime meeting of the heads of government of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. They were represented by President Franklin Roosevelt, the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin.The main purpose was to discuss Europe's post-war reconciliation.
  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    Joseph Stalin had went back on his word about the things he said he would do. So much had changed since the Yalta Conference, everyone had new leaders, and no one was at the Yalta Conference to keep him at his word.
  • HUAC

    The House of Un-American Activities Committee was an investigative committee of the House of Representatives. Very influencial in the Hollywood 10 trials.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    a policy set up by President Truman stating that the United States would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent them from falling to the Soviets.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    An American program to aid Europe. United States gave support to help rebuild European economies after the end of WWII and to help stop the spread of communism. Goals of the US were to: rebuild a war-devastated region, remove trade barriers, and to make Europe prosperous again.
  • Red Scare

    Senator Joseph McCarthy was on a witch hunt looking for communists, and falsely accusing people. He was a famous politican, so people trusted him.
  • Berlin Blockade/Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Blockade/Berlin Airlift
    This was one of the first international crisis of the Cold War. The Soviet Union blocked all access to the West part of Berlin. The main plan was to force them to surrender by starvation. In response, the US and the United Kingdom flew food and necessary supplies to the people, over 200,000 flights in one year.

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an international military alliance. It is a system of collective defense. Its members agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by anyone else.
  • Korean War

    Conflict between Communists and non-communists in Korea. Alot of tension arose when North Korea invaded South Korea. President Truman sent over 150,000 troops.
  • Nuclear Arms Race

    a competition for supremacy in nuclear warfare between the United States, and the Soviet Union, and their allies.
  • Warsaw Pact

    a mutual defense treaty between eight communist states of Eastern Europe.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War was the prolonged struggle between nationalist forces attempting to unify the country of Vietnam under a communist government and the United States (with the aid of the South Vietnamese) attempting to prevent the spread of communism.
  • Bay of Pigs

    an unsuccessful attempt by the United States. CIA trained Cuban exiles to overthrow Fidel Castro, the dictator of Cuba.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. President Kennedy was informed of the Soviets building missiles in Cuba. He decided to quarantine the island.
