The Soviet blockade the land routes into West Berlin, the U.S began a massive airlift of food, water, and medicine to the citizens. Over 200,00 planes carried in more than one and a half million tons of supplies. By the time the Soviets ended the blockade, West Germany became separate and independent. -

Many people fear that there will be a nuclear war, but it was avoided when the U.S agreed with the Soviet Union to remove the Cuban missile in exchange for the U.S promising not to invade Cuba. -

Destruction of the Berlin wall
The Cold War began to thaw, more than 2 million people from East Berlin visited the West Berlin to participate in a celebration. People began to bring hammers and picks to take down the wall. The chunks of the wall became known as “wall woodpeckers”.
