    During the period of roughly 1750 to 1810 there were major changes in Western music. The sonata form, one of the most durable forms in music history, was established. The structure of string quartets and symphonies was worked out. And, by the end of the period, music was being freed from the shackles of strict adherence to the relationships between structure and key signatures (primarily by Beethoven).
