-Debate between the North and the South to determine if the newly won Mexican Territory is a slave or free state
-Henery Clay saves the day again
-The Mexican Territory would be unrestricted
-Califormia would be free -
Fugitive Slave Act
-Act passed in 1850
-It permitted the capture of African Americans trying to escape to the North
-This act caused more tensions
-Made Abolitionists very angry -
Bleeding Kansas
-5000 people went to Kansas from Missouri and voted for proslavery representatives illegally
-Anti Slavery opponents started their own government
-They were attacked by proslavery opponents -
Dred Scott Decision
-Dred Scott wss a slave who had lived i nIllinois and Wisconson then he moved to Missouri
-He asked for freedom, the supreme court said all black couldnt become a citizen
-Declared the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional
-Slavery was permitted in all of the countries territories. -
Attack on Harpers Ferry
-John Brown
-Want to influence slaves to fight for freedom
-He wanted to capture the arsenal and Virginia to arm the slaves
-John and his men got captured
-Abolitionists saluted as he was put to death
-This caused the issue of slavery to go to the beaking point
