    Robert Smalls was an African American who fought for his freedom and his country during the Civil War. As the pilot of a steamboat the Planter, Robert Small took the steamboat across lines and told the union important information about the confderates.

    The Hunley was a submarine created to be an underwater advantage anf used for attack.
