The Libiator was a weekly anti-slavery newspapper. It was published by William Lloyd Garrison. In the first issue he wrote "I will be as harsh as truth, and as uncompromising as justice.... I will not retreat a single inch- AND I WILL BE HEARD."

Comprimise of 1850 passed

Jan 29, 1850

Proposed by Henry Clay a senator from Kentucky. California was added as a free state. Slavery would be illegal in Washington D.C.
Passed new Fugitive Act

Uncle Tom's Cabin Published

Mar 20, 1852

Harriet Beecher Stowe published. Uncle Tom's Cabin started as newspapper articles. Then was converted to a book on March 20th 1852.

Kansas Nebraska ACT Passed

May 30, 1854

Was proposed by Stephan A. Douglas. It alowed settlers to decide if slavery was alowed.

Dred Scott Desision

Mar 6, 1857

Dred Scott was helped by anti-slavery lawyers to sue for his freedom. Cort clamied that they couldn't ban slavery.

James Buchanan becomes presidint

James Buchanan was the 15th president, he was a Democratic.

John Brown's Raid at Henry's Ferry

John Brown Led a group to Henry Ferry, Virginia. It planned to arm enslaved americans, by attacking a arsenal.

Abe Lincoln elected as President

Nov 6, 1860

Abe Lincoln elected as first Republican President. Was later assacinated.

South Carolina Secedes from Union

Dec 20, 1860

South Carolina is first to secede from the union. Later TX, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Geogia fallow

Battle at Fort Sumter

Abe Lincoln send group of unarmed soldiers with supplies for fort. Fort attacks the group. Union Surrenders Fort.

The battle of Bull Run

Was the first war of the civil war. Many people brang picnics to watch.

Emancipation Proclamation

Jan 1, 1863

Issued by Abe Lincon. After 3 years of the Civil war issued that all slave in Rebelious states be free.

Battle of Gettysberg

3000 Union soldiers fought agains General Lee and 60000 condederate soldiers.

Shermans march to sea

Dec 21, 1864

Union General William T. Sherman led 60000 soldiers on a 285mile journey from Atlanta to Savannah Georgia.

The surrender at appomattox court house

Apr 9, 1865

Last battle of the civil war. Confederate Genral Robert Lee surrenders to Union.

Lincon's assassination

Apr 14, 1865

assasinated by John Wilkes Booth on Good Friday.Lincon was attending a play called Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre.
