    In 1846 antislavery lawyers helped Scott sue for his freedom. This also helped the court rule on the question of slavery itself. Dred Scott still had no rights to bring a lawsuit living on free soil did not make him free.

    Fort Sumter was on Confederate soil so when the states seceded from the Union they wanted them out of there so they sent troops to attack it. Surprisingly no one died but before supplies got to the fort they had to retreat.
