Fall of Richmond and Surrender at Appomattox
Union led by Ulysses S. Grant.
Defended by Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis. After Davis had burned all documents and weapons in Richmond, he ran away. General Grant and Lee later met up at the Appomattox Court House to discuss surrender conditions. The Civil War was over, slavery was abolished, and the Union was saved.
