    The Founding of KKK
    On this day the KKK was founded. It is a racist group that is made up of white, Christian people and will attack people of any other race. In the 1960's they really went for the African-Americans. They tried to stay under the law and attacked any time that was not illegal.

    "Seperate but Equal." The law states that any faucilities will be equal for black and white while white is usually a lot more clean and well builte
  • Bull Connor

    Bull Connor
    This year, Bull Connor became Commissioner of Public Safety in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a well known person for racial profiling. He used hounds and fire hoses just to do something with African-Americans. He even let the KKK attack passing African-Americans and called the police off.
  • Malcolm X

    Malcolm X
    Malcolm X was a foster and had a harsh childhood with segregation. He became muslim and changed his last name to X to signify that he does not want his "slave name". On this day he went from prison to parole but after this he became one of the muslim group's biggest leader.
  • Rosa Parks Arrested

    Rosa Parks Arrested
    One day, Rosa Parks got on a bus and got to the first section allowed to African-Americans. When the bus began to get full, the bus driver demanded that her and two other African-Americans move to the back just so one white person to sit down. She refused and got arrested because of it.

    Bus Boycott

    In this large time period, there was a boycott for African-Americans to not ride the bus. They just wanted at least 50% to participate on one day and it ended up being about 99% of African-Americans to find and alternative way around. It ended up being a longer term than planned.
  • Little Rock 9

    Little Rock 9
    The Little Rock 9 is a group of African-Americans that were some of the first to leagaly join a public school that was made for whites. They were abused at the beginning of the school year with people screaming at them and disrespecting them. The National Guard was brought into even though it was completely legal. The Little Rock 9 each had to have a form of body guard to defend from spitting and bullying the innocent African-Americans
  • Sit-in Movement

    Sit-in Movement
    This day four African-Americans walked into a White only lunch counter and sat down and asked for coffee. The waiter denied the offer and people there started to attack them and throw food at them but they did not fight back. Eventually the police came into this and arrested the people. After this, four more African-Americans walked in and sat down. This led to more forms of this including wade-ins and pray-ins.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    The first freedom ride began on this day. It is when people of a civil rights group (CORE) will ride on a cross country bus to the deep south to see if people there are racist. This one ended up in the worst place. It was shut down and everyone there had to fly back. There was another group that wanted to keep the ride going and they did.
  • James Meredith

    James Meredith
    In 1962, the law passed that schools should be conjoined. He was the first African-American studed to attend the University of Mississippi. He went through a lot of trouble but still graduated.
  • Martin Luther King Jr.

    Martin Luther King Jr.
    Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a preacher for a church until he heard of Rosa Parks an what she had done on the bus. He liked this form of protest and became a huge leader of the Civil Rights Movement. On this date he gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

    In 1964, voting was recently allowed for any male in the country. Many people did not like the idea of African-Americans to be able to vote. They gave out nearly impossible questions and taxes to have to vote commonly on only African-Americans. It did become illegal but still took time.

    On this day, the Civil Rights Bill became a law that made it so any registered American can vote. It did try to bend a little with the literacy tests and poll taxes.
  • Malcolm X Murdered

    Malcolm X Murdered
    Malcolm X was giving a speech to thousands of people when a rival group of Black Muslims ran in and gunned him down. They did not attack anyone else, but that is all they wanted to do.
  • MLK Assassinated

    MLK Assassinated
    On a deck in a motel in Memphis Tenessee, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated by a sniper from another place. They did find the culprit. Many people think it is a symbol to fight for, to have USA become equal for him and his death.
