The Russian people were tired of the czar and a protest for a higher bread ration turned into a total revolt. Czar Nicholas II was over throne and imprisoned. -
The Iron Curtain
Stalin called it a buffer zone for the nations Security. The countries in this curtain are ruled by a so called "police government" and would control the citizens with force. -
Potsdam Conference
President Truman and Prime minister Winston Churchill were on one side of the debate while Joseph Stalin was on the other. Truman and Churchill wanted to bring peace to Europe while Stalin wanted to rule over it. -

The bombs was dropped on japan as an attempt to get them to surrender. Roughly 100,000 people were died in those attacks; but Japan did surrender hours later. -

Truman's policy to support countries fighting communism. This tries to appeal to the countries in need. -
Marshall Plan
This was to financially aid countries damaged by WWII. It would entice those in need so they wouldn't turn to communism for aid. -
Berlin Blockade and Airlift
The soviet union blockaded the roads to west Berlin to drive out the U.S.. The U.S. sent planes with supplies to help those in the blockade and soon the soviets withdrawn. -
NATO
This is a military alliance with the U.S., Canada, and 10 other European countries. The soviets put together the Warsaw pact in order to rival NATO. -
Soviet's First Atomic bomb test
The successful test was completed years ahead of predictions. The soviets were able to rival the power of the U.S. with their new found weapon. -
The HollyWood 10
These 10 men were denied work because it was believed they had communist ties or sympathies. It was so be that literally no one would help then for fear of being thought of as communistic. -

This conflict started due to north Korea invading south Korea to turn them to communism. U.S. forces were sent to aid in the liberation of south Korea. -

Took over the Soviet Union after Stalin. Responsible for the de-stalinization of the soviet union and backing the soviet space program. -

This was a series of hearing to investigate accusations between the U.S. army and senator McCarthy. -

The Warsaw Pact
Was a treaty of peace, cooperation, and assistance within soviet states. Motivated by west Germany joining NATO of to control all military power in the soviet union. -

Officially fought between the government of north Vietnam and south Vietnam. -
Hungarian Revolution
Started as a student protest that grew into a nation wide revolt against the soviet government. Political prisoners were freed and armed while pro-communists were imprisoned or executed. -

A U2 was shot down over soviet airspace. Soviet's would now not go down peacefully due to the spy missions. -

Was a resounding failure. Kennedy refused to send air support and the invasion force was crushed. -
The Berlin Wall
This was built to keep east Berlin citizens from defecting to west Berlin. Armed guards were ordered to shot to kill if anyone were to try to cross the wall. -
The Cuban Missile Crisis
Soviet nuclear missiles were transported to Cuba to have weapons closer to the U.S.. Resolved by U.S. missile bases removed from turkey. -
Detente under Nixon
Was a mutual agreement between the U.S. and soviet union. It didn't end the cold war but there was a period of cooperation. -
The Reagan Doctrine
Was designed to roll back communist control. Local militia in Afghanistan was supplied with U.S. weapons to crush communist rule. -
Reagan’s Berlin Wall Speech
Spoke that if the general secretary of the soviet union wants peace they need to open the gate and tear down the Berlin wall. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The soviet union did nothing to stop the revolts of many countries and let them go. Berlin fallowed suit and the Berlin wall was demolished.
