    Andreas Vesalius

Andreas Vesalius was a Flemish doctor who is notable for his contribution to the science of anatomy of the human body.He is considered the father of modern anatomy and his work the beginning of modern medicine.
  • Anton van Leeuwenhoek

He made an important contribution to the development of cell theory. He algae and animalcules.Contributed to cell theory by believing that there were seeds or eggs too small to see by the eye being planted into food, and other things.
  • Marcello Malphigi

He identified the red blood cells, initially defined as adipose cells, later as coagulated blood cells. He considered the blood formed by 2 portions:the serous and the dense part. The dense part was involved in the blood coagulation.
  • Robert Hooke

The invention of the microscope led to the discovery of the cell theory by Hooke. While looking at cork,he observed box-shaped structures, which he called “cells” as they reminded him of the cells,or rooms,in monasteries.
This discovery led to the development of classical cell theory.
  • Jean Baptiste de Lamarck

He believed that living things evolved in a continuously upward direction, from dead matter, through simple to more complex forms, toward human “perfection”.
  • Robert Brown

He published his research findings and gave speeches. He discovered that the nucleus and its role helped to put together the cell theory, which states that all living organisms are composed of cells, and cells come from preexisting cells.Robert Brown’s discovery helped to confirm the second half of the cell theory.
  • Matthias Schleoden

He was a german botanist, concluded that all plant tissues are composed of cells and that an embryonic plant arose from a single cell.He declared that the cell is the basic building block of all plant matter.
  • Theodor Schwann

He was a zoologist,he was to work with Matt.Theodor Schwann were studying tissues and proposed the unified cell theory. The unified cell theory states that:all living things are composed of one or more cells;the cell is the basic unit of life;and new cells arise from existing cells.
  • Rudolf Virchow

He proposed that omnis cellula e cellula, which translates to each cell comes from another cell, and which became a fundamental concept for cell theory.
  • Louis Pasteur

He contributed to the cell theory by disproving spontaneous generation.HE was the first scientist to prove the cells can only form from
Pre-existing cells. He did this by creating an experiment that showed cells would only grow in broth if air was exposed.
