    The French and Indian War

    In the 1750's,France and Britain had gone to war in North America over the Ohio River Valley. The British governor Dinwiddie and George Washington were involved in the conflict between France and Britain. It changed the relationship between Britain and the colonists by having to pay taxes and the colonists also could not pass the Proclamation of 1763.

    Following the French and Indian war,the British Parliament establishes a border aligned with the Appalachian Mountains,that separates the colonists from the unhappy natives in the West. In order to control war debt it became illegal for colonists to cross this border. This Proclamation made the colonists very upset because now they could not cross a border they just fought for.

    The Sugar Act
    In the 1760's ,this act required colonists to pay 3 cent tax on foreign refined sugar. The British Parliament was the first to direct tax on American colonists.The Sugar Act made the colonists argue about the Parliament passing laws to tax them without a voice or vote. The saying they had came up with is "No Taxation without Representation."

    In the 1765's ,the Stamp Act required a stamp purchased from Britain government be placed on documents such as court papers,pamphlets,newspapers and playing cards.Colonists were angry and outraged the British troops were stationed in the colonies and that they had to pay for their upkeep. Stamp Act Congress says colonies shouldn't be taxed by Parliament.The only Taxation they would accept would come from the assemblies elected by colonists themselves.

    Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts placed taxes on items imported to the colonies from England, such as paper,glass,paint and tea. British Parliament passed these several laws. This also showed England had power over the colonies. Colonists themselves protested the Townshend Acts by holding public demonstrations to complain about taxes and boycotted. The colonists sometimes smuggled in imports coming from England too.

    On this day of March 5th, 1770 the colonists were starting to threaten the soldiers. They threw snowballs,sticks and stones they called the soldiers the "Lobster scoundrels". As one soldier shoots because he thinks the general says the orders to shoot. But it was actually the colonists shouting them to fire.7 other soldiers began to shoot with that same soldier.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    Committees of Correspondence
    In the 1760's - 1770's, Samuel Adams leader of the Patriot rebel group, the Sons of Liberty, Founded the first Committee of Correspondence. These Committees were made up to share information about each new issue faced in the developing crisis with England. This communication helped to form bonds among the 13 colonies, this will then help later on cooperate in the American Revolution.

    The Boston Tea Party
    In the 1773's the Tea Act was created to help the East India Company. Also known as a Monopoly. They decided to help them because they were having great financial issues. They had 18 million pounds of unsold tea. 60 angry colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians and raided the tea ships and started tossing 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.

    Coercive (Intolerable) Acts
    On this day all shipping was closed on the Boston Harbor until the Boston Tea Party was paid for. This act led to stores becoming closed and jobs were lost. British soldiers were arrested for murder in the colonies because of this conflict.Their was also a Quartering Act which made colonists take care of the British troops in their homes. Colonists also lost right to govern themselves!

    The First Continental Congress

    Representatives (Delegants) from 12 colonies come together to discuss the current crisis with England. This is the very first time they were a united government . This changed history which is amazing! They expressed that it was unfair to tax colonists without representation in Parliament.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Around 70 militiamen lined up against an outstanding number of 700 British soldiers on the Lexington green! The first shot is called "the shot heard around the world" but no one knows who shot. British soldiers continued to Concord to seize the colonists weapons and ammunition. But the British weren't aware the colonists had already taken their weapons. On the British's way back to Boston over a thousand militiamen attacked them. Around 250 British soldiers and 90 militiamen were killed.
