  • The French and Indian war

    The French and Indian war
    The French and Indian War was apart of a larger global conflict called the Seven Years War. Both countries wanted access to the profitable fur trade business and the cheap fertile land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Although the British lost majority of the initial battles they ultimately won the war. The war caused relations to worsen between the British and the Colonists. The colonists were angry with the Proclamation Line of 1763 and the taxes they were forced to pay.

    Description: The British Parliament passed the Sugar Act in 1764 in order to help pay for their debt from the French and Indian War as well as to pay for the troops guarding the Proclamation Line of 1763. It forced the colonists to pay a 3 cent tax on goods like sugar, coffee, indigo and certain kinds of alcohol. The colonists were not happy with this law because they had no say in parliament. The slogan “No Taxation without Representation” became popular in the colonies.

    The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act in 165 in order to support the British soldiers protecting the Proclamation Line. The Stamp Act required that a stamp purchased by the British government had to be placed on important documents like court papers,newspapers and even playing cards.The colonists were outraged.They were paying for troops that were keeping them out of the land they had just fought for in the French and Indian War and they still had no representation Parliament.

    A well-organized political organization shrouded in secrecy that was established to undermine British rule in colonial America. This group span up in port cities like Boston and NYC. Group member were men from all walks of life, and they were known to be hot headed and violent.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts taxed imported items such as paper, glass, paint and tea. The English Parliament passed this act to cover costs of the French and Indian War, as well as to show that they still had power over the colonies. The colonists were outraged with this act so they held public demonstrations, boycotted products and smuggled in goods. Parliament eventually decided to repeal this act because of colonial protests.

    On March 5 1770 there was a violent confrontation between the British soldiers and the colonists in Boston and colonists. The reason the one soldier shot was because a couple colonists were in an isle behind the soldiers.The colonists were saying “Shoot me if you dare”.A soldier shot out of self defense.This was a big part of history because it changed the course of time. At the Boston massacre trial the colonists were to blame. The British troops were not guilty and that they are not to blame.

    This new law was not designed to raise taxes in the colonies. The tea act was created to help the East Indian company so the colonies were only able to get tea from the East Indian Company. When the tea arrived in the colonies, The colonists in New York and Philadelphia did not take the shipments of tea and they were sent back to England. In Charleston , the colonists when the ship came with the tea they left the tea on the dock to rot.

    The Boston Tea Party was where the Colonists dressed up as Indians and went on to the British ship and took the tea off the ship and dumped it into the water but they did no damage to the ship. The Colonists only wanted to get the tea and get off the ship they did not mess with anything else they just got the tea and went back to dump the tea. The British were so mad they passed the intolerable act.

    The Coercive act was where the English government were furious about the rebellious Boston Tea Party. To punish the colonists, Parliament passed a series of laws called the Coercive Acts. The colonists renamed these laws the “Intolerable Acts” because they were truly not tolerable.

    The First Continental Congress

    The first continental congress was where George Washington, john Adams, Patrick Henry, John Jay, Samuel Adams came to a meeting that held to discuss the current crisis with England and to express their outrage. The First continental Congress included a petition and they sent to King George the third and in the petition I said that they were still loyal to the king. Also they urged the colonies to boycott all British goods.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The battles of Lexington and concord was where 900 redcoat troops were heading to Lexington and Concord and their orders were to arrest the rebel leaders and to seize their weapons.Which they were not successful on finding the colonists weapons.The first shot (The shot heard around the world ) that started the revolutionary war. There were 8 patriots were killed and 10 were wounded by the British. At the end over thousands of militiamen gathered in concord to confront the British.
