French And Indian War
: The French and Indian War was apart of a larger global conflict called the Seven Years War. The French and British had the most territorial disputes within North America during this war. Both countries wanted access to the profitable fur trade business and the cheap fertile land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Although the British lost majority of the initial battles they ultimately won the war. The war caused relations to worsen between the British and the Colonists. -
The Sugar Act
On April 5th the British Parliament passed the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act was the first direct tax the Parliament imposed on the American Colonists. England debt had grown a lot after the French And Indian War, many people in England thought the colonists should pay because they were fighting to protect their colonial borders. -
Sons Of Liberty
The Sons Of Liberty was an organization that was created in the Thirteen American Colonies.Group member were men from all walks of life, and they were known to be hot headed and violent. The secret society was formed to protect the rights of the colonists and to fight taxation by the British government. The Sons Of Liberty had a big role in battling the Stamp Act. -
The Stamp Act
The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act in order to support the British soldiers protecting the Proclamation Line.The Stamp Act required that a stamp purchased by the British government had to be placed on all important documents like court papers, newspapers and even playing cards.The colonists were outraged because they were paying for troops that were keeping them out of the land they had just fought for in the French and Indian War and they still had no representation in Parliament. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts taxed imported items such as paper, glass, paint and tea. The English Parliament passed this act to cover costs of the French and Indian War, as well as to show that they still had power over the colonies. The colonists were outraged with this act so they held public demonstrations, boycotted products and smuggled in goods. Parliament eventually decided to repeal this act because of colonial protests. -
Boston Massacre
:On March 5 1770 there was a violent confrontation between the British soldiers and the colonists in Boston and colonists. Colonists toward British troops quartered in the city, in which the troops fired on the mob and killed many people. -
The Tea Act
This new tax law was not designed to raise taxes in the colonies. The tea act was created to help the East because they were financially struggling to keep the company alive. They wanted to convince the colonists to buy the tea from the company. They agreed to accept the Parliament's right of taxation. -
The Boston Tea Party.
Massachusetts colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians and bored the British ships to toss 342 crates of tea into the harbor. This became The Boston Tea Party. They dressed up like Mohawk Indians to dump hundreds of crates of tea into the harbor as a protest against British taxes on tea. -
The First Continental Congress
A group of only men held a meeting to discuss the current crisis with England. 12 out of the 13 colonists came to the meeting including Peyton Randolph, Patrick Henry, George Washington, John Adams, and John Jay. A petition was sent to King George lll saying that they were still loyal to King George lll and to England. They showed that they thought taxing the colonies was unfair and they shouldn't have to pay. After the First Continental Congress it led to declaring America’s independence. -
Coercive (Intolerable) Acts
:The colonists were not paying for the tea so they were punished, The British were the ones who were punishing the colonists and the British got away with mistreating them. The colonists had to give up their beds and food to please the British soldiers. The colonists were angry because they had no say in how the government was run. In the end the colonists united all together to prove that they wanted a say in their government and cant be treated like that against the British. -
Battles of Lexington and concord
900 redcoat troops were heading to Lexington to arrest the rebel leader. 60 militiamen were lined up against well trained British soldiers. Nobody knew who fired the first shot. The first shot was called “The shot heard around the world”. The British won the battle, and went back to Concord to look for the colonists guns but found nothing. At the end over 100 militiamen confronted the British, later they followed the British. It was important because it started the American Revolutionary War.
