Barack Obama became the first black presidento of USA. Cecil took with him at the White House.

Reagan Administration

1986 BCE

Cecil finally obtain a more hight salary for black people. (The salary between white and black people were different).

Nixon Administration

1969 BCE

Nixon became president. He didn't help black people in the south, so black people weren't happy.

Luther King

1968 BCE

Martin Luther King was shot as he stood on the balcony outside his hotel room in Memphis, Tennesssee. President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which prohibited discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing.

Black power

1967 BCE

Stokely Carmichael, a leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, used the expression "black power" for the first time. He meant it as an assertion of black pride and "the coming together of black people to fight for they liberation by any means necessary".

Black Panthers

1966 BCE

The militant Black Panthers were founded in Oakland, California. The Panters' strategy of "picking up the gun" reflected the feelings of many inner-city blacks. Louis enter in this movement.

Malcolm X

1965 BCE

Black nationalist and founder of the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Malcolm X was shot dead in Harlem, New York.

Johnson Administration

1964 BCE

After Kennedy death, Lyndon Johnson became the president. He signed the Civil Rights Act, which outlawed major forms of discrimination and ended many areas of segregation.

March of Washington

1963 BCE

About 200'000 people joined the March of Washington. The participants assembled at the Lincoln Memorial to listen to Martin Luther King deliver his famous "I have a dream" speach.

James Meredith

1962 BCE

James Meredith was the first black student to enroll at the University of Mississipi. President Kennedy had to sent 5000 federal troops to deal with the violence and riots that surrounded the event.

Kennedy Administration

1961 BCE

Kennedy become the president of USA. It was a clever president that enjoyed work with his servants.

Fisk University

1960 BCE

Louis (the Cecil' son) was accepted in a south university. Here he started to revolt against the government.

Eisenhower Administration

Here they talked about some problems of the education that black children (in the south of USA) had.

Martin Luther King

1957 BCE

Martin Luther King and others established the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The SCLC became a major force in organising the Civil Rights Movement and founded its principles on non-violence and civil disobedience.

Washington

1956 BCE

Cecil moved to another city. He found work in a hotel where he met his future wife, Gloria. They will have two sons.

Montgomery, Alabama

1955 BCE

Rosa Parks was arrested because she refused to give up her seat at the front of the "coloured section" of a bus to a white passenger.

Macon, Georgia

1926 BCE

Cecil worked in a cotton plantain with his parents.
His mother was raped and his father was shot.
