The British Acts

  • Sugar Act

    The sugar act was passed to try to stop people from smuggling sugar into the colonies to help reduce the debt from the French and Indian war. If you were caught smuggling sugar the majesty will send out an officer who will come find you and you will be seized and prosecuted
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed because it was the first and only tax that the individual colonists had to pay themselves. The act said that all taxes paid to the king should be on legal papers .
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act was passed because King George needed to protect colonial interest so he needed to send his soldiers to the colonies. The act stated if a soldier came to your house and needed something such as somewhere to stay and food to eat you must provide it for the soldier.
  • The Townshed Act

    The Townshed Act was passed to stretch the power of the British soldiers stationed in the colonies and try to put an end to smuggling. The act said that the revenue will be raised to provide money to pay in provinces that are necessary.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea act was passed because colonists were smuggling tea since the taxes were so high. The Act says that anyone has to have a license to be able to sell the tea or import the tea anywhere
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Boston Port Act

    The act was passed to punish the inhabitants or people of Boston for the incident of the Boston Tea Party. The act said everyone who participated shall fix anything damaged until the majesty is satisfied
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts: MA Government Act an the Administration of Justice Act

    This act was passed to controll the 13 colonies because Britain was loosing controll. King george started to realize this
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Quebec Act

    This act was passed to guarantee British citizenship to keep their Catholic rights. The act stated it greatly extended the territory of the Quebec into the land that had formerly claimed by the original 13 colonies.
