The Tsar Abdicates
The Tsar Abdicates from Russia on his way to Petrograd, after realising that even his army had turned against him, thus leaving him defenceless infront of his people. -
The Provisional Government is established
Immediately after the Tsar abdicates, a temporary governement called the Provisional Governemnt is formed and was initially led by Prince L'vov. -
Lenin returns
Lenin returned to Petrograd by train (after being in exile in Germany), with the help of the German Government, and publishes his April Theses a day later. -
Thousands of soldiers desert the Russian Army
Due to the repeated defeats and the high, continuous loss of life more and more Russian sodiers deserted the army. -
July Days
This event lasted from the 3rd of July 1917 to the 7th of July. TOn the 16th of July, many demonstratiuons took place, many were violent. However, the Bolsheviks decided to provide leadership to the movement in order to give it an organized and peaceful character. -
Lenin goes into hiding
After Kerensky wins back support, the July Days finish and now he is on the hunt for the Bolshevik leaders. Respondong to this Lenin goes into hiding, initially at a freind's house, before fleeing to Finland. -
Kerensky appointed as leader
On the 6th August 1917, a cabinet reshuffle was officially announced putting Alexander Kerensky in charge. He was almost like the Prime Minister, and in charge of the new Provisional Government. -
The Kornilov Revolt
General Kornilov chose to go against the Provisional Government and revolt trying to bring them down. In response, Kerensky decided to arm the Bolshevik Red Guard to fight him and his troops off as well as releasing some from prison to increase force -

Trotsky becomes leader of Petrograd Soviet
Leon Trotsky is voted in as the Chairman of the Petrograd Soviet, this gives a lot more power to the Bolsheviks as they have more pwer now. He stays as the chairman for a month. -
Lenin returns (again)
Lenin returns from Finland after hiding out. When he returns, he goes about trying to change the Bolsheviks mind about revolution, as som are not keen for it to happen at that time. Lenin persuades them but Trotsky persuades Lenin to put it off a couple of weeks. -
Kerensky tries to close down 'Pravda'
Kerensky has another go at arresting the leading Bolskeviks, suspicious of a revolution and also tries to close down the Bolsheviks' newspaper called 'Pravda'. -
The Bolsheviks begin their attack
The Bolsheviks begin their attempt at a takeover by taking over key buildings, such as the State Bank, and decide to surround the Winter Palace -
Kerensky counter-attacks
In response to this, Kerensky tries to bring up an army to fight back the Bolsheviks. Both Trotsky and Lenin knows if he succeeds, the will be run over by the army. -
The Woman's Battalion Surrender
The Woman's Battalion, who were guarding the Winter Palace, surrender after pressure from the Bolsheviks and allow them to go through. -
'Aurora' attacks
The ship 'Aurora' sals up the river in Petrograd and fires it guns. This effectively destroys any last defence that the Provisional Government had and causes them to surrender. -
The Last Battle
The Bolsheviks storm the Winter Palace, where members of the Provisional Government were hiding at the time. It looks like the Bolsheviks are going to take over and the Provisional Government are finished, once and for all. -
A new day in Russia
The Bolsheviks now take over and set up the All Russian Congress of Soviets, with Vladmir Lenin as leader and Leon Trotsky as Comissar of Foreign Affairs. The Bolsheviks have now officially taken over.
