The Arrival
The Black Plague arrived by sea in the port of Messina. It was believed that it was an epidemic of the Bubonic plague, but researchers have discovered that it actually originated from a viral haemorrhagic fever that spread widely all over Europe. Effects on Community
The impact on communities was horrific. People were scared and angry with the disease that was destroyed their lives. Unfortunately the Jews were the scapegoats to the plague. By 1351, 60 major and 150 smaller Jewish communities had been destroyed, and more than 350 separate massacres had occurred during this time period.
