The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history. It was a combination of the bubonic and pneumonic plagues causing millions of fatalities. It spread from China to Europe in a very short time period. It decimated two thirds of the European population by 1356. -

The Black Death emerges in China. The disease caused by The Plague is thought to have been caused by fleas on mice or rats and it spread to people. The Black Death will rapidly infect in China and will makes it's way west like everything else does in China; the Silk Road. The roadsides were covered in dead, infected bodies. -

Plague arrives in Europe
Plague broke out among the troops of the Kipchak Khan, who was besieging the Black Sea port of Kaffa. He started to catapult infected, plagued bodies over the city walls. This is one of the first uses of Biological Warfare. When Italian trading vessels in the harbor returned to Genoa, they carried the plague to Europe. -

The Plague and The Church
To maintain as much control as possible through the chaos of the Plague, The Catholic Church had to take extreme measures. They said the reason someone would get the plague is because they were a sinner. This didn't explain why nuns and priests were getting infected as well. Also the pope was advised by Guy de Chauliac, a french physician and surgeon, to see no one, and sit near a fire for several days. This worked, for the fire kep him from getting infeected. -

Blame For the Cause of The Plague
Jews are a common target for blame. They are massacred by the thousands in Germany for it was believed the Plague was their fault because they were heretics. In some places in Germany it was thought that jews poisoned wells also. -

The Black Death by this year had killed 25 million people in Europe alone. there would be 200 bodies buried daily. Populations for example, in Norwich went from some 70,000 to 7,000 people. This is considered the worst plague ever.
