100,000 people migrated to the Klondike Region in order to find gold but when they arrived other prospectors were already there and dug up all the gold. -

starred in Democratic convention with Cross of Gold speech. Defeated by Mckinley in bid to become U.S president. -

political organization where a boss that commands votes to maintain political control of a city. -

a political party who did not support the Democrats or Republicans. They just wanted to cover real world issues and hope that one of the major parties picks up on their statement. -

writers who who exposed social ills to try and better the country. most were reform-minded. Took on corporate monopolies and politcal machines. A famous muckraker was Upton Sinclair at the time. -

Activist writer famous for his book "The Jungle" which talked about social injustices. -

a law that provided federal inspection of meat products. Made sure that all food wasnt adulterated Was influenced by Upton Sinclair's book The Jungle. -

protecting interests of native- born against those of immigrants. In 19th century Europeans migrated to the east coast and the Chinese immigrants went to the West. -

President Taft made a foreign policy to ensure finanical stability of a region while expanding American commercial. -

Initiative is the power to voters to propose new laws and amend exisiting laws. Referendum is the power to voters to submit a petition to require the Mayor and Council to demand repeal for specific ordinance. -

Government didnt solve real world problems for the people so the people became angry. The people couldn't do anything about the situation. -
18th amendment
prohibitied the manufacture, sale, import and transport of alcohol. -
19th amendment
prohibits any US citizen from being denied the right to vote regardless of sex. -
Tea Pot Dome Scandal
Albert B. Fall leased Navy petroleum reserves at Teapot dome in Wyoming and California at low costs to provate oil companies, It was seen as a bribery incident. -

religious social reform movement. Among liberal Prottestant groups that wanted to better the society through biblical principles of charity and justice. -
