    Overall Premise
The book, The Big Field, was written by Mike Lupica. It is a book about a kid who is nicknamed Hutch. He loves playing baseball, and his favorite position is shortstop. Then Hutch joins a team called Post 226 Cardinals. Unfortunately, they already have a shortstop named Darryl. Darryl is projected to go play pro baseball. Now Hutch has to play second base. To Hutch it feels like the biggest demotion besides getting kicked of the team. I chose this book Mike Lupica is my favorite sports writer.

  • Event 1-- Bases Loaded

    Event 1-- Bases Loaded
One event that happened in the book was Hutch playing his first game with Post 226 Cardinals. They were playing post 12 Braves. They were up 7-6 and it was the bottom of the ninth inning. The bases were loaded and all the Cardinals needed was one more out to go the finals. They were up 7-4 but they gave up 2 runs. Finally, It is hit towards Hutch and he gets the out. This was important because if they lost they would be out of it. My thinking: I kind of knew they were going to win the game.
  • Event 2 -- Captain

    Event 2 -- Captain
Another event that happened was the selection of the team captain. This part was important because it was essentially saying who the best player was. Hutch was thinking he was not going to get called, but he was one of the candidates besides Billy Ray Manning, Darryl, and Hutch. Then Hutch got serious about winning it. He got all preachy and mentioned how Darryl really didn’t care about the team because he was always late for practice. My Thinking: I think Hutch felt bad.
  • Event 3-- Oh Captain My Captain

Event 3-- Oh Captain My Captain
Another event that happened was the actual selection. This part was important because it was essentially saying who the best player was Somehow it went from Billy Ray to Brett because Billy Ray didn’t want to deal with all of this. Then Brent voted for Hutch. Then all the Dugout started chanting, “Hutch, Hutch.” Then Coach Cullen decided that Hutch would be the team's captain because he is a natural born leader and a winner in general. My Thinking: I was kind of surprised by this.
  • Event 4-- Like Father like Son

Event 4-- Like Father like Son
Another event that happened is Hutch explaining his Dad's Baseball experience. This important because he is kind of telling his back story. Hutch was explaining how his Dad was a baseball player. Carl Hutchinson was in the Little league World Series and led them to the World Series, but lost to Taiwan. He got to play minor leagues for the Atlanta Braves then the Minnesota Twins. He never got to play in the Majors. My thinking: I felt bad for his Dad because he never got past the Minors.
  • Event 5-- Naples, Italy

    Event 5-- Naples, Italy
Another event that happened the Post 226 playing the Naples Yankees. This is important because if they lose they are out of the playoffs. First, Naples gets up by 4-0 in the first inning. Then it was 5-0 because of two errors and Hutch is getting mad. Hutch was determined, so he hit a 3 run home run 5-3. Then Darryl hit a Homerun 5-4. Finally, Hutch hit a two run homerun to win the game. Hutch even got on tv. My thinking: They couldn’t have lost because it was only 80 pages in.
  • Event 6-- The Interview

    Event 6-- The Interview
Another event that happened was Hutch’s interview. This is important because it raises Hutches swagger. “Hutch, that is your name, how did it feel when you hit those two home runs?” “It felt good because we get to go to the next round ” “Do you think you will be as good next time?” “I have these games inconsistently. If my teammates and I were more consistent throughout the game and not waiting until the last inning to score we would be unstoppable.” My thinking: Hutch is a little cocky.
  • Event 7-- Home Run Derby

    Event 7-- Home Run Derby
Another event that happened was the Post 226 playing the North Palm Dodgers. This is important because if they lose they are out of the playoffs. Finally, the Cardinals jump out with a 3-0 lead. Then the other team got a Home run it was now 4-2. Next, Darryl, Brett, and Pedro all hit home runs. It was a back to back to back homerun. It was basically over then. The final score was 7-2. My Thinking: They are getting stronger as a team and a unit.
  • Event 8-- Gorda game (No Pun Intended)

Event 8-- Gorda game (No Pun Intended)
Another event that happened was the post playing Punta Gorda Pirates. This is important because if they lose they are out of the playoffs. If they win they will be in the championship game. In the 4th inning the score was 2-3. Next, we get an R.B.I single to make it 3-3. It stays that way until the bottom of the ninth. Finally, Darryl comes up to bat. Hutch was already on second and they needed was a single. Instead of a single, Darryl knocks it out of the park. My thinking: It keeps happening.
  • Event 9-- Pre Game Warm Up

Event 9-- Pre Game Warm Up
Another event that happened was the pre-championship game. This is important because this is what they have been working for all of the season. They were playing the post 38 Orlando Astros. They won the championship in the previous 2 years and are looking for their 8th all time win. Post 226 is looking for it’s first ever title. My Thinking: I think they will win because these sort of books always has the main characters team win the championship.
  • Event 10-- The Final Countdown

    Event 10-- The Final Countdown
The final event was the Championship Game. The game quickly jumped out to a 2-2 game. It stayed that way all the way to the ninth inning. Unfortunately, Hutch gets hit in the head with a pitch. He has to sit a few innings which was worse than playing 2nd base finally in the 9th inning they needed Hutch. No one on base with a tie game Hutch hits a clutch double. Darryl then hits a Single and Hutch gets home, barely. Final score 3-2. My Thinking: I knew they were going to win.
  • Event 11-- Good Book

    Event 11-- Good Book
I thought this book was good overall. I would recommend it to someone who likes sports, but basically sports in general. I would not watch the movie if they made one because I only watch big movies like Star Wars or Hunger Games. Although, I would read the next one in the series if Mike Lupica made another book. It was believable at some moments like getting a few clutch outs and a few clutch hits, but other parts were not. I wish that the book was a little bit longer and had more surprises.
