The Development of Parliament
After the Magna Carta, English leaders relied on the Great Council for advice. This council evolved into Parliament to later become England's legislature. As parliament acquired a larger role in the government, it helped unify England. -

Forming the Estates General
During this struggle with the pope, Phillip gained the support of the French by setting up the Estates General in 1302. This body had representatives from all classes of French society: clergy, nobles, and townspeople. -
