The Dawn of the Aztec Empire
The incredible Aztec Empire began with a vision supposedly from the gods. In this vision, there was an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its mouth. When the Aztecs found this image in real life, it indicated that the land there was where they needed to settle down and begin building their empire. Even in the present-day, this vision is remembered by the people of Mexico and people of Aztec descent and is even included on the flag of Mexico. -

Tenochtitlan is Founded
A settlement that eventually became the Aztec capital city, Tenochtitlan, was founded on Lake Texcoco on an island. This capital became a bustling city with a large, busy market, center of the Aztec government, and a flourishing farming area. -

The Triple Alliance is Established
The Triple Alliance, a partnership among Tetzcoco, Tlacopan, and Tenochtitlan, which were neighboring societies, was formed. This alliance was made up of conquered cities and Tenochtitlan. The dominant city of this partnership was Tenochtitlan, but all of the cities worked together to wage wars against others and gain power and money. -

The Downfall of the Aztecs
After many great years of prosperity and wealth, the Aztec Empire slowly began to subdue to the Spanish and the diseases brought with them. The Aztecs were outnumbered by the Spanish, and the Spanish brought new diseases that the Aztecs were not built to withstand. The empire was then conquered while many were killed in wars. This ultimately resulted in the end of the Aztec empire, but its legacy will forever live on.
