In the next several years, England, the United States, China, Russia, France, and numerous others stood against Hitler, sending forth young men to fight on the ground, in the air and at sea to remove German forces from an ever growing number of occuppied lands. -

The Manhattan Project
Manhattan Project Albert Einstein sent a letter to Presedent Roosevelt, informing him of the explosives he had come across, this was the start of the forming of the Atomic Bomb. Soon after the Manhattan Project became a success, the Soviet Union developed their own atomic bomb. -
Roosevelt authorizes the Manhattan Project
FDR ApprovesFDR authorizes the Manhattan Engineering District for the purpose of creating an atomic bomb. It was an investment of $2 Billion, which was used to build a full gaseous diffusion. They came up with the name "Manhattan Project" to disguise the forming of the bomb. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor

Just before 8 in the morning hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The barrage lasted just two hours, but it was devastating: The Japanese destroyed nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and almost 200 airplanes. After the assult, FDR declared war on Japan, this introduced the US in to WWII. -
Fist Atomic Bomb Dropped

President Truman Orders for bombs to be used
Bomb orderd to be usedTruman held knowledege of the bomb being formed, the ability to end the war was in his hands, but it involved exposing the worst weapon known to man. The decision to drop the Atomic Bomb came about becausse of the Japaneese Leaders rejected the Postdam Declaration. -
Little Boy was dropped
Little Boy The mushroom cloud billowing up 20,000 feet over Hiroshima. It was the first nuclear weapon to be used and developed by Manhattan Project during WWII. -
Fat Man was dropped
Fat Man The second nuclear weapon to be used. It was dropped on Nagasaki. It was 10,213 pounds, 10.7 feet long, and 5 feet wide. It was round and fat, thats how it got its name "Fat Man". -
Japan announces formal surrender
Japan SurrendersJapanese representatives signed the official Instrument of Surrender, prepared by the War Department and approved by President Truman. It set out in eight short paragraphs the complete capitulation of Japan. The opening words, "We, acting by command of and in behalf of the Emperor of Japan," signified the importance attached to the Emperor's role by the Americans who drafted the document. -
First Hydrogen Bomb was dropped
Hydrogen BombIt's codename was "Mike" and it was tested at the Enewetak atoll in the Marshall Islands on also by the United States. The test gave the United States a short-lived advantage in the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union.
