The Atom Through the Ages

  • Antoine Lavoisier

    Antoine Lavoisier
Law that stated mass is neither made or destroyed by chemical reactions.
  • Dalton's Spherical Model

    Dalton's Spherical Model
Spherical, indivisible model of the atom. Dalton did not believe the atom could be broken down, he believed it was the smallest particle of matter. He simply believed atoms were tiny, dense, spheres. Dalton is known for the help of the modern atomic theory and for linking the law of conservation and law of definite proportions to form the first atomic theory.
  • Lord Kelvin

    Lord Kelvin
Invented a new empurature scale called kelvin. The equation to convert celsius is kelvin = degree Celsius + 273.15 . And from farienheit degree F = degree C x 1.8 + 32. A memory trick to understand the kelvin is, When it's zero it's freezing,
    "when it's 10 it's not,
    when it's 20 it's warm,
    when it's 30 it's hot!"
  • J.J. Thompson/Cathode Ray tube experiment

    J.J. Thompson/Cathode Ray tube experiment
Thompson invented the cathode ray tube expirement as one his great scientific backings. He used this expirement to discoved electrons because the ray aimed at the positive pole.
  • Marie Curie

    Marie Curie
Discovered Polinium and Radium along with the help of her husband, professer Curie.
  • Hantaro Nagaoka

    Hantaro Nagaoka
Discovered the Saturnian Model of the atom a planetary model that suggested electrons revolve around the nucleas like planets to the sun. His idea were aprooved by rutherford in his 1911 paper.
  • Plum Pudding Model _- J.J. Thompson

Plum Pudding Model _- J.J. Thompson
J.J. Thompson proposed the "Plum Pudding Model," he believed that tiny negative particle were surrounded by positive materials.
  • Nuclear Model- Ernest Rutherford

    Nuclear Model- Ernest Rutherford
Proved J.J. Thompson's "Plum Pudding Model" incorrect, proposed the Nuclear model, and discovered the nucleas and protons of atoms with his famous "Gold Foil Expiriment." Was rejected by scientist beacuse it suggested that elctrons orbit around the nucleas, whereas the unceartainty principle has proved that electrons cannot be predicted or tracked.
  • Gold foil expiriment

    Gold foil expiriment
Rutherford discoved the nucleas of an atom through his extremely famous gold foil expiriment where Rutherford used a lazer and was suprised when he saw that atoms were scattered, which meant that the nucleas was both tiny, and solid
  • Niels Bohr's Model

    Niels Bohr's Model
Niels Bohr, (1885-1962), discoved the Bohr Model, that declares that electrons have stable orbits around the nucleas. Proposed that electrons are limited to a ceartian orbit, but they can jump to other orbits. Recieved the Nobel Peace prize in 1922 for his work, and was one of the first tastes of modern physics.
  • Albert Einstien

    Albert Einstien
Einstien is a recognizable name to anyone, he hade many tremendous scientific breakthroughs and recieved acknowledge meant of these in 1921 by winning the nobel peace prize of excellence in physics. One of his major contributions was the equation E=MC^2, which means that energy is the mass times the speed of light squared. This also proved that energy could be found from mass. This information actually lead to the building of the Atomic bombs the USA dropped in WWII.
  • Unceartainty Principle- Werner Kerl Heisenberger

    Unceartainty Principle- Werner Kerl Heisenberger
German Physcacist, and nobel prize winner, Heisenberger worked to develop quantum mechanics, and discovered the unceartainty principle. Heisenberg's work was the inspiration and foundation of the quantum theory.
  • Quantum Mechanical model-

    Quantum Mechanical model-
Discover by Erwin Shrodinger, a very complicated model of the atom that disproves past assumptions that electrons orbited around the nucleas. States that in the electron cloud there is a chance to find electrons. This is based on the quantum theory and unceartianty principle, and is built on the foundation of many modern physascists.
  • Sir James Chadwick

    Sir James Chadwick
Discovered the nuetron and atomic mass and worked on the manhatten project during world war two along with many sucessful and famous colleuges. His also came up with the modified nuclear model of the atom after discovering the nuetron.
  • Glenn T. Seaborg

    Glenn T. Seaborg
Responsible for the discovery of transuranium elements, and also the identification of more than 100 isotopes of elements in the Periodic Table
