The Beging of the Enlightenment
Enlightenment thinkers started questioning authority and embracing the nation that humanity could improve. The Enlightenment created many books about ideas and opinions. These books took affect to the colonies. -
The French Indian War
France's expansion into the Ohio River valley brought conflict with the claims of the British colonies. France won the Indians support. When British formally declared war in 1756, they didn't have success against the French and their Indian allies. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by British Parliaments. It imposed on all American coloists and required them to pay tax of every piece of printed paper they used. They money collected by the act was used to help pay the cost of defending and protecting the American fruntier. Americans possessed the right to be taxed only by their representatives. -
The Sugar Act
The British wanted more money for security so they created the Sugar Act to tax the colonist for imported goods. The British hoped that the act would force the colonist to sell them the their goods which ment the colonies wouldn't be able to seel their goods for as much money. Soon Colonies started to boycott or quite buying British goods. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was passed by British Parliament to save the faltering East India company from bankruptcy. The tea would be shipped directly to the colonies and be sold at a bargain price. Leaders in America found reasons to believe that this act was a maneuvor to buy popular support for the taxes already inforce. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was an act against the Tea act. A group of Massachusetts Patriots protested on the American tea importation. At midnight they hijacked three ships and threw 342 chests of tea into the harbor. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
British troops marched to Lexington with 700 men. Paul Revere and other riders sounded the alarm. British later on retreated back because of intense fire. -
The Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress convened after the American Revolutionery war had begun. It took many steps to declaring America's independence from Britian. Five years later, the congress ratified the first national constitution. -
Thomas Paine publishes Common Sense
Thomas Paine anonymously published the book Common Sense. He settled forth his arguments in the favor of American independence. This book played a role n transforming a colonial squabble into the American Revolution. -
Declaration of Independence
The Delaration of Independence was a symbol of liberty. It was written by Thomas Jeffferson. The second Continental Congress meeting approved the Declaration of Independence. -
Valley Forge
Valley Forge was where George Washington and his amry of 11,000 decided to rest and make quarters. They marched from New Jersy to confront 17,000 British forces.It was a rought winter. 2,000 of Washington's soldiers died do to diesease, cold, and starvation. -
Treaty of Paris
The Continental Congress had John Adams, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Lauren to negotate a treaty. This treaty ended the Revolutionary War. It removed British troops and set new bprders for the United States. -
Shay's Rebellion
Shay's Rebellion was a series of protests by American farmers. They went against States and local enforcement of tax collection and judgment for dept. Daniel Shays was the sybolic leader in Massachusetts. -
Constitutional Convention
The Constitutional Convention drew up the Constitution of the United Sates. This created radical political movenments. The convention met in the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia. -
Ratification of the Constitution
In the Ratification of the Constitution, majority of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention approved the document. For two days congress debated on it. On September 28, they approved it and it took effect.
