    George Washington
    Washington choose Alexander Hamilton to come up with an economic plan because he was the secretary of treasury. Washington issued the proclamation of neutrality, although he was influenced by Hamilton to do so. This resulted in Jefferson resigning from congress. Throughout his presidency he only suggested a few laws and had two vetoes. In his farewell address, he condemns political parties, warns against foreign alliances, and tells America to only have economic relations with foreign nations.

    Alexander Hamilton
    Alexander Hamilton called upon the nation to pay off the debts, which was mainly caused as a result of the American Revolution. He also proposed the establishment of a national bank, that would distribute paper money and handle taxes and government funds. After the election of 1800 Burr challenges Hamilton to a duel, and Hamilton dies in 1804.

    Thomas Jefferson
    (1801-1809) During Jefferson's presidency he expanded voting to adult white males. Jefferson wanted to decrease the size of the government and give power to the common man. While Jefferson was President, as a result of the fighting between both Britain and France, the embargo act was enacted.

    The Louisiana Territory was purchased by Jefferson. Although he wasn't sure the Constitution allowed him to by the territory he did so anyway, paying 15 million dollars to Napoleon. This purchase more than doubled the size of the United Sates. In order to explore this territory, Jefferson send Lewis and Clark on an expedition to get research about the land.

    This was a policy of the United States opposition to any European interference in the affairs of the Western Hemisphere. It was announced by President Monroe.

    Andrew Jackson was supposed to win the election of 1824, but Henry Clay sways voters towards Adam. As a result, Adams wins the presidency. This angers Jackson and forces him to crie foul. Jefferson belived he could give the people what they wanted.
  • Indian Removal Act of 1830

    Andrew Jackson signed the bill into law. Land greed was a major reason for the federal government's position on Indian removal. The Cherokee were forced to be moved, but they wrote up a constitution that proclaimed that the Cherokee nation had complete jurisdiction over its own territory.

    Trail of Tears
    Native Americans were forced to move out of their homes and from the Southern part of the United States. Many Native Americans suffered from exposure, disease and starvation on the route to their destinations. 1/4 of the natives died.
