The French and Indian War
The French and Indian War (also known as the 7 years war) was between Great Britten and France. The soldiers had been fighting with each other over who would control of the Ohio Valley. For the first part of this war, Britten was a total wreck but a man named Willem Pitt was able to change that. Britten did end up winning the war. But even with that victory came hardships. They now had a ton of debt to pay off so they needed to find a way to get money... -
The Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was right after the French and Indin War ended. The Treaty of Paris, which showed the end of the French and Indian War, gave Britain some valuable North American land. Britain wanted to expand into the western territories. But King George III set the proclamation of 1763 to stop all American colonists to go west of the Appalachians. -
The Stamp Act
After the French and Indian War, Britten was left with great deght. They needed to figure out a way to gain money. They did this through something called The Stamp Act. This meant that every legal document had to be written on specially stamped paper, to show proof of payment. Even with the early efforts of tax, this was the first direct tax on the American colonies. Everyone used paper so the colonists were mad! -
The Quartering Act
After the Stamp Act was repealed due to mad colonists protests Britten needed yet another way to gain money after the hard French and Indian war. They realized that taxing got the colonists mad and the troops cost a lot of money so they made the Quartering act which says that colonies need to provide food and shelter for British troops -
The Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts stated that certain items were taxed. One of which was tea. Tea was very popular to which was why Britten probably choose that item to tax. The colonists were certainly very mad about this. They decided to do a peaceful protest we call "The Boycott Of British Goods" As well as this woman started to make homespun clothes to replace British ones. -
The Boston Massacre
No colony was thrilled with the Townshend acts which created tension. The Boston Massacre was on March 5, 1770. There was a mob of about 60 angry townspeople. There were hurling rocks and snowballs at the guards and reinforcements. With all the causs the British fired without captain Thomas Preston's command. There were five men killed, and others were injured. -
The Boston Tea Party
With the Townshend acts taxing tea (a very popular item) The colonists rebelled! There was shipped tea that came to Britten at Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts, on the night of December 16, 1773, a group of angry people dressed up in Indian costumes and took the shipped tea and threw it overboard! They dumped 340 chests of tea into the ocean that night, weighing over 92,000 pounds. -
Minutemen
Colonial militias had been created to defend things like attacks by French or Native Americans. But selected members of the militia were called Minutemen because they could be ready to fight in a minute's time. They independently organized their group and trained themself. -
The Battle of Lexington/ Concord
The Battle of Lexington/Concord was on April 19, 1775. The self-trained/made/organized minutemen were up against the British soldiers. The Milittman have been preparing for this but not for long and they're just random people from Massachusetts that formed a small group. The British soldiers have been trained for this their whole life but however they lost the battle. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4th, 1776. Tomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, and John Adams wrote the Declaration of Independence. This is a very important document that said all men are created equal. And was all about freedom. The colonies declared there independence from England this day.
