The Stamp Act

Declaratory Act
This act was passed by Parliament on the same day the Stamp Act was repealed, it stated that the British Parliament's taxing authority was the same in America as in Great Britain. This was an important event because this encouraged colonist to make groups such as Sons of Liberty and Daughters of Liberty. -
Townshend Act
This act enforced taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. It was an important event because colonist started boycotting purchasing of British imports. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a fight that occurred between a mob of colonists who threw snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a group of British soldiers. It was an important event because several colonists were killed and the news spread to every colony. -
Tea Act
This gave the company a monopoly on selling tea directly to the colonists and making taxed tea cheaper than smuggled tea. This was important because this reinforced taxes on the colonies and hurt local merchants who made their living from tea. -
Boston Tea Party
A protest by the American colonist against the British government. They dressed as Native Americans, boarded three trade ships in Boston Harbor, and threw the ships' cargo of tea into the ocean. It was an important event because the British lost a lot of money. -
Intolerable Acts
The four acts were the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. It was an important event because the colonist came together to call the First Continental Congress to meet about an approach to the British. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The British marched into Lexington and Concord to suppress the possibility of rebellion by seizing weapons from the colonists. It was an important event because it persuaded many Americans to take up arms and support the rebellion. -
Olive Branch Petition
As an attempt to reconcile, John Dickinson drafted the petition for King George III refused to receive the petition which enraged the colonists. It was an important event because the King declared the colonists traitors. -

This was a failed American attempt to invade Canada and reunite French-Canadian support for the Patriot movement against the British. It was an important event because it was a turning point in the war. -

The 13 colonies cut off their connections to Great Britain by issuing the Declaration of Independence. It was an important event because the document announced the separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain. -

The terms of the treaty were that the U.S. was a free an independent nation, Americans could fish the waters of British Canada, debts would be repaid, and captured slaves would be returned. It was an important event because it was the end of the Seven Years' War.
